Who this is for
Am I a good candidate to sell my practice?
TriStar works with veterinary practice owners who want to retire now or within a year, owners who are three to five years out and want to improve the practice before selling, younger owners who have built a practice up and can now sell it and stay on, and owners who are unsure about selling at all but are struggling to staff the practice.
Four kinds of owner we work with.
More than one can be true at once, and none of them is a commitment. The first conversation happens under a mutual non-disclosure, whichever one you are.
TriStar's services are designed for doctors who want to retire, whether it's now or in the next year. We also like to work with doctors who are thinking in the next three to five years. This way, we can help them optimize their practice over that time frame, whether through cost of goods, staffing, or other areas. It's not just about immediate needs but also longer-term planning, and we'll work with them throughout that period.
Additionally, it could be as simple as our last client, a 38-year-old doctor who bought the practice a few years ago, built it up, and realized he could now sell it, pay off his debt, and work for the company for the next five years.
It's also for doctors who might not want to sell immediately but are unsure and might be interested due to staffing troubles, whether with technicians or doctors. In those cases, we can explore a joint venture where they sell part of the practice now, take some chips off the table, and then sell the rest when they're ready to retire.
And if the answer is no, you will hear that too.
Sometimes we underwrite a practice and it will not reach the number an owner needs to retire on. When that happens the honest answer is to wait and improve it rather than sell into a number that does not work. We have worked with owners for two and three years before taking them to market.
